State Police: A Bold Step Towards Tackling Insecurity in Nigeria

As an NGO committed to integrity and human security, the Initiative for Integrity Award in Africa (IIAA) strongly recommends full support for the move to introduce State Police. This reform, if implemented, has the potential to reduce insecurity, empower governors to act decisively, and create a peaceful environment where citizens and farmers alike can thrive.

For too long, insecurity has persisted with state governors often lamenting their limited control over security in their territories. State Police would change that narrative, enabling states to take direct responsibility for protecting lives and property. Effective security is essential for peace, agricultural productivity, and sustainable economic growth.

We therefore call on governors, stakeholders, and patriotic Nigerians to lend their voices and support this initiative. Security is a shared responsibility, and implementing State Police is a critical step toward building a safer, stronger, and more prosperous Nigeria.
